Vigo, Spain, September 30, 2015. SMAB, the platform spreading, improving, and reinventing audio, has just opened its doors to users who wish to discover it, on the occasion of today’s International Podcast Day. The launch has been in beta, meaning the product is finished, but can still be slightly changed to improve user experience. However, SMAB’s features and advantages are already available to users who want to try the service.

SMAB offers both users who access the platform to discover audio content, and those who want to share their own content, a series of unique, interesting advantages. The first ones will be able to find in SMAB educational contents, but also culture related information, such as audio books and on-demand radio content. Podcasts will always be available, so that users can listen to them or watch them whenever and wherever they want.

For content producers, SMAB offers a perfect platform to share their audios, and reach a wide audience. Published content will be easily accessible, and unlike other podcast platforms, enriched with more than audio. SMAB allows content producers to add contextual info, such as videos or links, making the whole experience richer. Audio content will also be easily indexed by search engines -anyone will be able to find them through Google search -, since they are automatically transcribed. Users will also find it easy to share their favorite audios on social media.

SMAB offers content producers another important advantage: they will be able to monetize their audios by publishing them as paid content, or adding visual ads. This ads won’t hurt user experience -they are not invasive, and are related to users interests.

“SMAB makes it possible to build an audience, find listeners outside the podcast community, and help Google to see your podcast or audiobook,” explains Adrian Dogar, CEO of SMAB. “You can publish your stories on interactive audio format, and offer your presentations or notes to the audience in the moment they need them with SMAB’s sync tools,” he adds.

How to access SMAB

Using SMAB is really easy. Anyone with an Internet connection can become a user of the platform. They only have to access SMAB by following this link, and ask for an invite to access the beta version as a user. This can be made by filling a form to create a user account or signing up with Facebook.

Once inside the platform, users will find it is deeply intuitive and easy to follow. Those who are looking for audios can browse and explore them by accessing the specific tab. Publishing audio is also easy: content producers just have to upload their files following a quick, simple step-by-step form. It’s as easy as uploading a picture to their favorite social media site.

What is SMAB

SMAB was born out of a fascinating story, and an inspiration emerged from education related problems. Its founder, Adrian Dogar, drew the product’s first sketches while he was building walls as a laborer. Dogar worked in construction before the economic recession, but when the financial crisis started and posed a threat to his working future, he decided to recycle himself and specialize in something different. That’s how he started to learn programming, but finding the time to study was difficult -he was still working, and a father of two little girls. He decided to record his textbooks’ content, so that he could listen to them during the day, while putting up plasterboard.

His experience was bittersweet. Using audio with an educational purpose proved to be a really good idea. Dogar finished his courses with the highest scores. However, the experience of listening to the audio was far from perfect, since it was difficult not to lose track of the content, and he missed the support of some visual material. It was also complicated to resume the audio just where he had stopped listening when he had to pause. That’s why he decided to create something to solve those problems, and to make it an easier experience. Out of that inspiration, SMAB was born.

*SMAB’s inspiration comes from its founder own experience, when he used to record programming lessons to listen to while putting up plasterboard.

*Podcasts are the Internet’s latest trend, gathering increasingly higher audience figures and making users get addicted to them.

Vigo, Spain, x, 2015. Internet’s audio content offer has just been widened and improved with the launch of SMAB, a platform allowing an easier distribution and discovery of audio contents to an audience who is not necessarily part of the podcasting universe.

SMAB is a platform where anyone can become a podcaster and publish his own audio contents, connect with an audience, and monetize his work. Internet users won’t only be able to produce content, but also discover new thing. SMAB is a space where anyone can listen on demand audio shows for free.

From construction to new technologies
Behind SMAB is Adrian Dogar, its founder and CEO, who drew inspiration for the platform from his own personal experience. Dogar studied and left unfinished two university degrees, deciding to make his dream, working in the Western world, true. That’s how he moved to Spain from Romania a few years ago, and how he started working as a laborman. But the financial crisis which hit hard Spain’s economy these last years also hit Dogar’s trajectory, making him take the decision of going back to studying, while still working.

It was during this period of working and studying again when the idea of SMAB was born. Dogar enrolled in two programming courses, but noticed he wasn’t advancing as fast as he wanted. “I didn’t have much time, I worked many hours during the day, and I have two daughters,” explains Adrian Dogar, CEO of SMAB. “I wasn’t advancing on my courses, so I tried to find a solution.” Dogar decided to record his courses textbooks, turning them into audio tracks, so that he could listen to them and study them while putting up plasterboard during his working day.

The experience was extremely positive: Dogar finished his courses with the highest scores. Determined to share with others what had worked so well for him, and to solve the problems of the system he had used, he started to look into existent technology and to develop his first app. These were the first steps of SMAB, a platform to share and consume audio.

During the last years, Dogar has worked to make his idea and dream true. As a matter of fact, SMAB was one of the 33 projects selected for Yuzz’s 4th edition, one of Spain’s most renowned entrepreneur programmes. The project was one of the 3 selected in Galicia. Thanks to this, SMAB could travel to Silicon Valley and experience first hand how the startup ecosystem works there.

Podcasts: Internet’s latest boom
SMAB comes in a moment when audio is trendier than ever on the Internet. Podcasts have become one of the most sought contents online. Internet users are listening to more and more podcasts, making these contents get important audience numbers.

What are podcasts? Podcasts are audio contents which can be listened to through the Internet. They work, so to speak, as an on-demand radio where the listener is who decides how and when he wants to listen to the audios. The popularity of mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, combined with better and faster Internet connections, has helped this kind of contents to become more popular. Downloading podcasts is extremely easy through nowadays Internet networks, and the fact that we all carry our smartphones with us has provided the perfect medium to listen to these contents any time.

As a result, podcasts have become trendier and more popular as a new entertainment option. However, entertainment is not the only purpose of podcasts -SMAB has proved they can also serve culture and education purposes.

What makes SMAB special
Using SMAB as a platform to offer education and cultural contents is one of the things making it different from other podcasting platforms. “SMAB is my two cents to the education system,” explains Adrian Dogar. “I would like the platform to help young people, to become a useful tool in their training, especially for those who have to juggle study and work,” he adds.

Education contents are extremely important on SMAB, but not the only kind of audios Internet users will find on the platform. They will also be able to listen to audiobooks, and on demand radio. SMAB is also easier to use than other audio platforms, since it allows users to filter contents in a simple way, and to see related info, which enhances the listening experience.

For podcasters, content producers, SMAB is a way of reaching wider audiences, and it offers an easy monetization option. SMAB includes visual, non-invasive ads, so the user experience remains fluid, and untouched. Podcasters can also offer their contents for a low price.
